Sierras Gear List - Scandinavia

If you want to go on a bikepacking trip with your dog, you have to think about the gear you want to take for them. You don't necessarily need a lot of things, but there are a few basics that are important to take in order to make sure your partner in crime stays safe and healthy. We can take a lot of gear or keep it minimalistic. But in the end, you need to take what makes your trip a great one.

Gear List

Sleeping bag

There are a couple of reasons why we are taking a sleeping bag. It gives Sierra a comfortable place to lay on in the trailer and also helps to protect my tent from her paws.

Water bowl

Unknown - Sierra took the tag off

I am a rebel and used the same bowl for food and water because with Sierra there are never any leftovers.

Paw Protection

Having booties with us is important to me. Not only great are they great for the time Sierra injures her paws, it also protects her from sharp rocks and the heat from the concrete.

Leash

I have decided to change my leash this time. It clips around my waist, giving me the chance to ride hands free. Not only that, it is a bungee leash that also has a short handle for the situations where you need to keep your dog close.

Collar

As Sierra is a dog with much strength and can be quite reactive, having a secure and strong collar is important to me to stay safe. She will be wearing it in busy areas.

Light and reflective vest

Being visible in the dark is important but going on a bikepacking trip of even more importance. Running on roads and being next to the bike in traffic, I want Sierra to be as visible as possible.

Rain and Fleece Jacket

We had this jacket for years and I absolutely love it. Keeps her warm and protected from rain and wind. And even in an absolute storm, the water does not creep up from beneath and gets the fleece wet. Worth every cent. There is a new version now, which is a bit different to the fleece.

First Aid Kit

Everything your dog needs. Individual.

I think it's important to know and have the basics with you. You never know if your dog steps into glass, has a tick or breaks a paw while climbing across rocks. Better be prepared and carry a bit more than be sorry.

Harness

Blaire

I used a lightweight, easy harness. This one is perfect and gives Sierra the freedom to move.

In camp leash

I use a camp leash for Sierra. A long leash to give Sierra some space to relax without the danger of running off into the unknown.

Muzzle

A muzzle is not only necessary when using public transport or the ferry, it also aids when your dog is injured and prevents bites out of pain.

Poop bags + Passport

Anything goes for poop bags. The passport is important to document the latest vaccines.

First aid kit

You decide what goes in your first aid kit. It is really individual to you and your dog. My basics include the following:

  • Tick removal
  • Sticky bandage
  • "Scissor" to remove objects stuck in your dog's throat
  • Cling film
  • Gloves
  • Knee tape
  • Gear tape
  • Mask
  • Gauze
  • Plaster Bandages
  • Bandages
  • Medication for Sierra
  • Medication for me
  • Israeli Bandage
  • Tourniquet
  • Emergency blanket
