Sierras Gear List - Hiking

If you want to hike with your dog, you have to think about the gear you want to take for them. You don't necessarily need a lot of things, but there are a few basics that are important to take in order to make sure your partner in crime stays safe and healthy. We can take a lot of gear or keep it minimalistic. We are definitely on the lighter, more basic side. This is what we took.

Backpack + Harness

Sierra carried mostly her Snacks, toy, poop bags and water. If she gets tired, or it gets too warm, I carry it for her.

Sleeping mat

I decided to carry a lightweight blanket for Sierra to have something warm to sleep on at night and to protect my tent from holes

Leash

I took a multifunctional leash with me. It was great as I only had one leash but multiple ways to shorten or lengthen it. For hiking itself, it was not ideal, as it was too long. I prefer a 2m bungee leash.

Rain and Fleece Jacket

We had this jacket for years and I absolutely love it. Keeps her warm and protected from rain and wind. And even in an absolute storm, the water does not creep up from beneath and gets the fleece wet. Worth every cent.

First Aid Kit

Everything your dog needs. Individual.

I think it's important to know and have the basics with you. You never know if your dog steps into glass, has a tick or breaks a paw while climbing across rocks. Better be prepared and carry a bit more than be sorry.

Water and Food Bowl

I am a rebel and used the same bowl for food and water because with Sierra there are never any leftovers.

Passport + Vaccinations

Individual + Vet

It is really important to check what kind of vaccinations are needed when heading into different countries. And having an EU passport on hand is also necessary. Talk to your vet about what vaccinations are needed.

Poop Bags

Anything goes

I don't think this needs an explanation. Leave no trace.

Paw Protection

Having booties with us is important to me. Not only great are they great for the time Sierra injures her paws, it also protects her from sharp rocks and the heat from the concrete.
